Another Day, Another Dollar

There are a few things I LOVE about being a librarian. I love the days I get to put brand new books on the shelves. I love inspiring kids to read things they might not normally read. (Ex. Last week I had a TON of kids check out poetry books after my lesson on poetry.) I love getting to use my scanner. (And apparently so do all my students...I get asked at least 10 times a day, "Can I scan it?") I can't imagine what it must have been like to have been a librarian before they used scanners. Ooooh, and the card catalog. Kids today don't even know what that is. Mine is just collecting dust in the corner of my office area. I am oh so thankful for technology! I love the possibilities that are out there for my library...book club adventures, author visits, literature circles. Fun stuff.

I feel so thankful that God put me where I am right now at Purvis. My coworkers are wonderful, my students stinkin' adorable, and my library the perfect place to grow in my career.

An (un)Ordinary Day

Our days have been really busy lately.  Honestly, I sometimes really miss the simple seasons of my life.  I remember my first year in teaching, I didn't bring work home with me (mostly...ha) and would come home and walk my dog for a good 45 minutes through the avenues every afternoon.  But, then I didn't have a husband and kids to invest in...it was just me and Bama. I absolutely wouldn't change a thing about my life and where I am right now though. Mentioning the avenues and my first year teaching reminds me of one thing...the day I met my husband.  Back in those "simpler times" when I was struggling to survive my first year as a teacher, I was set up on several blind dates and things, but nothing ever developed from them.  I was teaching in a Hattiesburg School, young, inexperienced, and sweet...yikes!  But towards the end of the year, I got a Mexican girl in my class.  I mentioned how nice it would be if my students could learn some Spanish.  One of my student

Yesterday while Seth was buying our groceries for the week at the market, I took the girls to Panchita's (the closest thing we have to McDonald's here...but a Bolivian version with chicken being the main meat.) to play on their playground.  As they were playing I realized there are things about them at this age that I will forget in a few years and I need to be writing them down.  So, tonight I'll start with Lola, or L.B. Lola, you are so full of life at this age.  You've heard me say it enough, that you even tell people that old people love you, and its true.  You have the cutest "Bolivian grandmother" at church, a tiny little lady with short, curly grey hair that lights up every time she sees you.  You hug each other and she holds your little face in her hands and talks to you (in Spanish). Giving Up Control

The title of this blog pretty much sums up the past 6-9 months of my life.  I have given up doing the "logical things" and am now stepping out in faith and trusting the Lord in so many more areas of my life.  Giving up the control to Him is freeing now, but the process was difficult with many sleepless nights. To begin, I resigned from my job in the spring so that I will not be returning this school year, but homeschooling.  That's a big leap in itself, but Seth did the same thing in hopes that we will have our support raised prior to the end of the 2013-2014 school year.  He began working at a Mexican restaurant over the summer and will be substitute teaching in the fall full time.  (I will also be keeping a friends' girls during the day to bring in a little more income as well.)  Those are HUGE changes for our family, but the Lord has given us the grace and the peace needed in this season.  I started homeschooling 3 weeks ago to get our kids into a semi-routine be
